The Buddha Rashmi National Vesak 2023
The Buddha Rashmi National Vesak Zone was held from May 5th to May 7th, 2023, coinciding with the Vesak Full Moon Poya Day. The event took place at several locations in Colombo, including the Gangarama Temple, Presidential Secretariat, and Prime Minister’s Office premises.
The Vesak Zone was a feast for the eyes, with beautifully designed pandols, colorful lanterns, and stunning decorations that adorned the streets and buildings. The main attraction of the event was the Bakthi Geetha recital that was performed on a floating stage set up on Beira Lake. Visitors enjoyed the performances both on the stage and from boats that sailed nearby.
As part of the event, Dhansels, a traditional Buddhist practice of giving alms, were organized. This allowed visitors to participate in the religious aspect of Vesak and contribute to the community.
The event was a grand celebration of Vesak, an important Buddhist holiday that commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha. It was a time for reflection, meditation, and spreading love and compassion.
FOR SINGING EVENT
As a group of students, we also had the opportunity to add to the event by singing a song. It was an honor to be able to contribute to the celebration of Vesak and showcase our musical talents. The audience seemed to enjoy our performance, and it was a memorable experience for us. Being a part of such an important cultural event gave us a deeper appreciation for the traditions and values of Sri Lanka. We were proud to be a part of the festivities and celebrate Vesak with the community.
