WP/C/Hindu College Mutwal is a 1AB category Tamil school located in Colombo North in the Western province. It is a mixed school which caters to a large student population of 1300, comprising a Hindu group of 900 students. The rest are Catholic and Christians. The school is also privileged to count on very dedicated staff. There are 59 well qualified and trained teachers. Take pain in teaching to overcome the difficulties of the students to bring them up to the standard.
The school has four upstairs buildings including 25 classrooms from grade 1 to grade 13 and extra activities room to accommodate the students learning career. Library, Computer lab, Multimedia unit, Laboratory, Music room, and dancing room are the facilities available in the school but not in enough space. At present there is ongoing construction of four storeys building.
The annual programmes such as; Sports meet, School day, Cultural day, English day, & religious functions were held in due time. The school is very much supported by the SDC, PPA, the untiring service of the principal, teachers well-wishers. It is proudly mentioned here that in addition to Advanced Level Streams presently conducted here, we have started A/L Bio Tech stream successfully and the results produced by the 2018 is appreciative.
The main source of income is facility fees which are collected from the students for a year. Apart from that money which is provided by provincial council and the Department of education office and philanthropists contribution is spent for the school development. The students of Mutwal Hindu College come from a variety of family situations with a strong Tamil Hindu traditional background. A distinctive feature of this school that cater educational needs to the children who come from the lower income group of society in and around Mattakkuliya.
In studies the school shows good result every year. Co – Curricular activities are the only way to achieve the target of a school thus the school motivate the students to involve in such activities for the health of their brain as well as their body. Hindu College Mutwal is an ideal school located in this area which is suitable for these area students according to their race and creed to up bring their standard including discipline. In the history of our school, the Prefects day was held greatly and successfully for the first time in 2018 with the ardent support of the principal, teachers and students. Along with it a Web site was launched.
